'Swadeshi ' Boards on Shop: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday gave another boost to the promotion of 'Swadeshi' or indigenous goods, as India continues to harden its stand against the US tariff regime that has hit international trade. "Traders should put up a big board outside their establishments stating that they sell 'Swadeshi' goods," the prime minister said, specifically referring to shopping in view of the upcoming festivals.
He was speaking at an event in Ahmedabad in his home state of Gujarat. "Now Navratri, Vijay Dashami (Dussehra), Dhanteras, Deepawali, all these festivals are coming," Modi said.
'Whatever we buy will be 'Made in India', it will be Swadeshi'He suggested, 'These are celebrations of our culture, but these should also be celebrations of self-reliance. Therefore, I want to repeat my request to you once again that we should adopt a mantra in our lives that whatever we buy will be 'Made in India', it will be Swadeshi.'
One should feel proud in putting up a board that says 'Swadeshi is sold at my place'He further said, 'I also encourage businesses to refrain from selling goods imported from other countries. These small but impactful steps can play an important role in furthering the progress and prosperity of our country.'
He said vendors should feel proud to put up boards that say 'Swadeshi is sold here'. Modi has so far emphasized 'Vocal for Local' and 'Make in India' during his 11-year tenure as Prime Minister.
