KP Sharma Oli resigned as Nepal's PM on Tuesday (9 September 2025) amid violent protests. Oli could remain in office for only 1 year and 2 months. He became PM for the third time on 15 July 2024. His resignation was announced when protesters vandalized several important offices including the Parliament House, residences of leaders and protests also took place in other cities.
According to The Kathmandu Post, protests were being held against this government over corruption, ban on social media and nepotism. During this protest, many youths were killed in firing by the police. After this violence, pressure was constantly increasing on Oli. Before Oli, the country's Home Minister and Agriculture Minister had submitted their resignations.
Balen Shah refused to take charge
There was also talk on social media about Balendra Shah resigning from his post and forming a new political party and assuming national leadership and becoming the interim PM, but he refused.
