China Mobilizes 27 Military Aircraft and 6 Naval Vessels in Tense Taiwan Airspace

Send Push

Taiwan's Ministry of National Defence (MND) reported the detection of 27 Chinese military aircraft and six naval vessels operating around Taiwan between 6 a.m. on Sunday and 6 a.m. on Monday. This continues a pattern of heightened military presence by China near Taiwan in recent months.

The MND noted that 19 of the People's Liberation Army's (PLA) aircraft crossed the Taiwan Strait median line, entering Taiwan's northern, central, southwestern, and eastern Air Defence Identification Zones (ADIZ). Taiwan's military closely monitored the situation and responded as necessary.

In a social media post, the MND shared, "27 PLA aircraft and 6 PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. today. 19 of the aircraft crossed the median line and entered Taiwan's northern, central, and southwestern ADIZ. We have monitored the situation and responded accordingly."

This latest surge in Chinese military operations follows a similar occurrence on Sunday, where four PLA aircraft and six naval vessels were detected near Taiwan. On that occasion, two aircraft crossed the median line in the Taiwan Strait, prompting Taiwan's defense forces to take necessary action.

After a brief pause in Chinese activity for three days, Taiwan reported renewed military presence on Saturday. Since September 2020, China has intensified its military maneuvers around Taiwan, frequently deploying air and naval forces into Taiwan's ADIZ and conducting military exercises near the island. These actions are part of what analysts describe as "gray zone tactics," where China steadily increases its military presence without escalating to direct conflict.
