Keke Palmer and Law Roach may not have always aligned creatively, but the bond between them remains strong. During a panel discussion for Roach’s new book, How to Build a Fashion Icon: Notes on Confidence from the World’s Only Image Architect, the renowned stylist shared a candid moment from his time working with Palmer.

Roach recalled when Palmer once said he was “not the best stylist for [her],” despite his global acclaim. “I’m bringing all these clothes, and I could never get the clothes right. One time she actually called me and said, ‘You might be the best stylist in the world, but you’re not the best stylist for me.’ I f–king loved it,” Roach said, laughing alongside the audience.

Palmer, who was in attendance, responded with a smile, “Law lives for a drag!” Roach continued, acknowledging Palmer’s feelings. “She was right because I had this idea of how I wanted to present her. I wanted her to be proud of her baby bump and show it off,” he said. However, Palmer wasn’t ready to share that part of her journey publicly, and Roach respected her choice.

Earlier this year, Palmer welcomed her first child, a son named Leodis Andrellton Jackson, with Darius Jackson. In the months following her son’s birth, Palmer has embraced a new chapter in her life, including the transformation of her style. In a July 2023 interview, she opened up about feeling empowered post-pregnancy, saying, “After having my baby, I’ve just gotten so much more powerful. I’m just so strengthened in a crazy way. Strutting my stuff, enjoying.”

Reflecting on her evolving personal style, Palmer shared that motherhood has brought her back to her roots. “I don’t know if it’s ‘changed’ with motherhood or ‘come back around to who I’ve always been,’” she said. Palmer described her sense of fashion as a reflection of her bold and ambitious personality. “I’ve always been that personality, ready to run a company. It’s very black Americana, a little traditional, but with some fun and fierceness,” she added.

Through her journey, Palmer has continued to evolve, both personally and professionally, embracing her power and authenticity every step of the way.
