NIA Files Chargesheet Against Two More Accused in Shivamogga ISIS Conspiracy Case

Bangalore: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet on Tuesday against two additional individuals in the Shivamogga ISIS conspiracy case, raising the total number of accused to ten. The individuals identified are ISIS radicals Abdul Matheen Ahmed Taaha, alias Taha, and Mussavir Hussain Shazib, alias Shazib. Both had previously been chargesheeted by the NIA in connection with the Rameshwaram Cafe Blast Case and their involvement in the Al-Hind ISIS Module in Bengaluru.

Hailing from Shivamogga district, the two men were involved in the radicalization and recruitment of vulnerable Muslim youths, including other co-accused in the case. The NIA took over the investigation from Karnataka police in November 2022, focusing on the anti-India activities of the proscribed terrorist organization Islamic State (IS/ISIS).

According to the official release, the accused were engaged in violent activities, including arson, trial explosions, and burning the Indian National Flag, as part of a conspiracy to spread terror and destabilize the nation. The NIA filed its third supplementary chargesheet before the NIA Special Court in Bengaluru, naming the two individuals under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P) Act). Investigations into the case, which was originally filed by the state police in September 2022, are still ongoing.
