Obama Criticizes Trump at First Campaign Rally for Harris, Urges Voter Support

Former US President Barack Obama sharply criticized Donald Trump, calling his behavior “crazy,” during his first campaign rally for Kamala Harris in Pennsylvania ahead of the 2024 election. At a rally in Pittsburgh, Obama encouraged voters to back Harris, while also addressing hesitancy from some Black male voters who, he said, were reluctant to support Harris due to her gender.

Obama compared Trump’s speeches to those of Fidel Castro and questioned Trump’s connection to everyday Americans. Acknowledging that the election would be close due to ongoing economic struggles, Obama said he couldn’t understand why anyone believed Trump would bring change, adding, “You think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?”

He labeled Trump’s schemes, including selling bibles, as “crazy” and criticized Trump’s embrace of conspiracy theories. As the crowd jeered, Obama reminded them to “vote” instead of booing.

In a direct appeal, Obama urged Black male voters to reconsider their reluctance to support Harris, saying, “You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses.” He suggested that their hesitation might stem from discomfort with the idea of a woman president.

Kamala Harris was in Nevada for a town hall and later spoke at a rally in Arizona aimed at Latino voters. When asked to list three of Trump’s virtues, Harris acknowledged his love for his family but said she didn’t know him well.

Meanwhile, Trump was campaigning in Michigan, unveiling protectionist policies for the auto industry and attacking Harris, calling her “dumber than hell.” He criticized Detroit, suggesting the entire country would suffer if Harris were elected.

Harris expressed disappointment at Trump’s refusal to participate in a second debate and noted she had agreed to a CNN town hall in Pennsylvania on October 23.

With the race closely contested, Democrats hope Obama’s involvement will energize Harris’s campaign as she continues to challenge Trump.
