PM Modi Inaugurated New Era of Telecom at ITU-WTSA

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 8th edition of the International Telecommunication Union - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on Tuesday. This marks the first time India and the Asia-Pacific region have hosted this significant global event.

Following the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi, accompanied by Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, explored the exhibition at the venue. The Prime Minister also announced that he would inaugurate the India Mobile Congress (IMC), which carries the theme "The Future is Now."

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi shared the news about both events on X, stating, "At 10 AM tomorrow, 15th October, the International Telecommunication Union - World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly and the India Mobile Congress 2024 will be inaugurated. These forums are important, bringing together leading stakeholders from across the sector," according to the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).

The event is set to host interactions with various industry leaders, policymakers, and tech experts from over 190 countries. It aims to gather more than 3,000 participants from the telecom, digital, and ICT sectors, providing a platform for crucial discussions.

The ITU-WTSA will focus on setting standards for emerging technologies such as 6G, AI, IoT, Big Data, and cybersecurity. The PMO emphasized that hosting this event in India allows the country to play a vital role in shaping the global telecom agenda and influencing future technologies. Indian startups and research institutions will gain important insights into developing Intellectual Property Rights and Standard Essential Patents.

The India Mobile Congress 2024 will highlight advancements in the telecom ecosystem, showcasing innovations in quantum technology and the circular economy. It will feature demonstrations of 6G, 5G use cases, cloud and edge computing, IoT, semiconductors, cybersecurity, green technology, satellite communications, and electronics manufacturing.

As Asia's largest digital technology forum, the IMC has become a prominent platform for showcasing innovative solutions and services. The event will feature over 400 exhibitors and 900 startups, with participation from more than 120 countries. Attendees can expect over 900 technology use-case scenarios, more than 100 sessions, and discussions with over 600 speakers from India and around the globe.
