SRINAGAR: MElaborate security has been intensified in Srinagar, particularly around Sher-e-Kashmir Park, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's upcoming election rally. This rally, scheduled for Wednesday, marks Modi's first appearance to support BJP candidates in Kashmir ahead of the Union territory's assembly elections later this month.

A senior police official confirmed the heightened security measures. "We have implemented a multi-layer security arrangement in line with the Standard Operating Procedure for such high-profile visits," said Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi on Tuesday.

The rally venue is located close to the Lal Chowk clock tower, an iconic landmark in Srinagar. Birdi assured that police have made adequate arrangements for the event. "We will issue regular travel advisories to ensure a smooth event and minimize public inconvenience," he added.

Security personnel have been deployed in significant numbers along roads leading to the rally venue. Officials noted that police and paramilitary forces have increased random vehicle checks at several points, and special checkpoints have been set up.

Patrolling has also been ramped up around the area as part of a security exercise to maintain control over the surroundings. This will be Prime Minister Modi's third visit to the Kashmir valley this year, following his rally at Bakshi Stadium on March 7 and his participation in the International Yoga Day event at SKICC on June 21.
