Call the Midwife teases new 'odd' storyline for Miss Higgins as fans 'can't wait''

Call the Midwife have teased a new, and rather odd, storyline for Miss Higgins as the BBC show releases a new behind-the-scenes snap.

During the season 13 of the period drama, Miss Higgins' past was explored as viewers crept into the receptionists personal life for the first time. Miss Higgins' reconnect with the son she gave up at birth and was filled with the deepest joy.

Her world was shaken by the arrival of her long-lost son Victor but the story has a tragic ending. The reunion was bittersweet and short-lived as the two, who had longed for each other over the years, shared a beautiful connection, only for it to end abruptly with his death.

With deepest sadness Victor passed away shortly are them reconnecting leaving Miss Higgins devastated.

But in the forthcoming Christmas episode of Call the Midwife it appears Miss Higgins finds some joy as she celebrates the festive season with a huge amount of brussel sproats.

In a teaser photo shared to the show's official Instagram on Thursday (July 4), actress Georgie Glen is seen in character pealing the vegetables while sitting at a wooden table.

Dropping hints of the a new plot for the GP's side-kick, the caption read: "We've just got our hands on this photo from the set of the Call the Midwife Christmas Special, which comes to your screens this holiday season 2024!

"It's a wonderful behind-scenes portrait of our own Georgie Glen, as the redoubtable Miss Higgins. But we couldn't help noticing a great profusion of that most Christmas of British vegetables..... SPROUTS! Lots and lots of them!"

It continued: "Now the humble Brussels sprout is a vegetable that... how can we put it... divides opinion amongst our yuletide diners - particularly children!

"There is an enduring love/hate relationship with this maligned staple amongst the British - some will even complain of its powers to induce rather more digestive activity than is desirable or polite!

"And yet it remains a centrepiece of the traditional British Christmas meal. And the more curious amongst you might wonder why there are quite so many spouts being prepared by Millicent here.... All will be revealed!."

Call the Midwife fans wasted no time in taking to comments to share thir excitement at the forthcoming storyline with one person writing: "Can not wait", while a second stated: "Wow literally can't wait for Xmas day."

A third chimed in: "So looking forward to this Christmas special", while another added: "Loving this!."
