Chelsea might have already decided whether to sell Nicolas Jackson, who is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. He has been linked with a move elsewhere after being bumped down the pecking order by the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Both players look set to feature ahead of Jackson when the new season gets underway, having made convincing cases during the Club World Cup.
A number of sides have been credited with a desire to land Jackson, who remains tied down at Chelsea until the summer of 2033. He is said to have emerged as an option for Manchester United, who are seeking a new striker to lead the line for them next season. They are thought to be prioritising a move for Benjamin Sesko but could fall back on Jackson if negotiations break down.
Newcastle have also been linked with the Senegal striker as a potential replacement for Alexander Isak, who is being pursued by Liverpool. However, the Blues have already hinted that Jackson might be kept at Stamford Bridge.
They have agreed to send Marc Guiu on loan to Sunderland, with confirmation of that move expected imminently. The former Barcelona man will be hoping to continue his development with a productive campaign at the Stadium of Light.
Chelsea's decision to loan out Guiu suggests that Jackson could stay on as a third-choice striker. If he departs as well, the west Londoners would be leaving themselves short in the event of injuries to Pedro or Delap.
Jackson has already suggested that he would prefer to stay at Chelsea, saying earlier this week that he just wanted to help the team.
Quizzed on the 'serious competition' he would face if he remains at Stamford Bridge, Jackson told DSportsTV: "Competition? I have no competition.
"We're all here to help the club. Everyone has their role to play. I'm on a mission. It's up to the coach to make his choices. I focus solely on my work.
"I'm a Chelsea player. The future belongs to God. If there are any changes, you'll know. For now, I'm focused on my preparation."
Other reports have suggested that Chelsea would be seeking a huge transfer fee to sell Jackson this summer. According to The Independent, they value their man at no less than £80million which is said to be putting off interested clubs.
With time running out for Jackson to secure a move elsewhere and Guiu on his way to Sunderland, it seems increasingly likely that he will stay at Chelsea for at least another season.
