It was a typically busy summer as far as Chelsea were concerned. The sort that has become commonplace since Todd Boehly and his band of merry men rolled into west London town.
There were incomings, plenty of them, but perhaps surprisingly, even more outgoings too. Chelsea started the summer looking to trim their squad numbers and on the most part were successful in their attempts. The likes of Joao Felix, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson all secured moves elsewhere during the recent summer window.
But not all of the so-called 'Bomb Squad' left for pastures new, with some unwanted players forced to stick around at Stamford Bridge instead. One of them is Axel Disasi, who had spent the second half of last season out on loan at Aston Villa.
It's suggested that Disasi was subject to an approach from West Ham United, after the east London outfit identified him as an ideal replacement for the departing Nayef Aguerd. Alas, despite West Ham being prepared to cover his wages and pay Chelsea £5million, the London Stadium move didn't transpire.
The move is said to have collapsed because Disasi wasn't keen on the switch, but it could come at a cost for the defender. That's because it's been reported that the Frenchman has since been told to eat alone and use separate toilets to the rest of his team-mates.
Disasi opened up about snubbing the chance to join a Premier League rival during an interview with French outlet Le Media Carre. He explained: "In the period between the approaches from Bournemouth and West Ham, Monaco arrived and that hit me emotionally.
"I had three incredible years at Monaco. When they came in, all the memories came back. Monaco is home. I hoped that Chelsea would find a solution to allow me to leave on loan. I pushed until the last minute to go to Monaco."
Even though he was part of the team that helped Chelsea to the Conference League title last term, Disasi has been left out of the Blues' upcoming squad for this season's Champions League. It's the first time Chelsea have competed in the competition since 2023, with the two-time winners having qualified via their fourth-placed finish in the Premier League last term.
