Recipes can often be made more complicated than they need to be, especially when it comes to carrot cakes.

Luckily, a mother has taken the internet by storm with her four-ingredient carrot cake recipe that almost any home cook can bake with ease.

The mum shared her "easy" steps on social media as some amateur bakers who followed her recipe insisted their cake tasted "wonderful".

The cake takes around 45 minutes to bake and under five minutes to prepare.

While there is the option to make cream cheese icing for the top, the cake tastes equally as good without it.

Two cups self-raising flour

Two cups grated carrots

One can condensed milk

100g pecan nuts or walnuts

Cream cheese icing (optional)

60g softened butter

500g sifted icing sugar

250g cream cheese

80ml lemon juice

Method

To make the cake, there's one main step - combine the ingredients in a bowl, pour the mixture into the pan and bake at 180C for 45 minutes until toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

The next step is optional, the woman said, as she explained her easy steps to create a cream cheese frosting for the carrot cake.

She suggested using butter, icing sugar, cream cheese, lemon juice and milk.

To make the icing, place the ingredients into a separate bowl and use a spoon to mix until well combined.

"Add a bit of milk [to the icing mixture] as it might be a bit dry as well as half a teaspoon each of cinnamon and mixed spice," the woman suggested.

After pulling the cake out of the oven, allow it to cool completely on a wire rack before frosting. Finally, spread the icing evenly over the top.

Many quickly praised the mother for sharing her easy recipe after it was shared in a cookery Facebook group called Budget Meals.

Others were quick to compliment the woman, describing her carrot cake as "delicious", while others said they were very impressed with their creations after following her recipe.

Some suggested swapping the pecan nuts for walnuts while others said they have added the recipe to their list of things to bake in the coming weeks.
