Presenter Kate Garraway interrupted Good Morning Britain on Friday to share an update on the migrant crisis. While she reassured fans at home that it was positive news for a change, those watching were not convinced as they were left fuming.
The 58-year-old presenter told viewers that the Home Office has confirmed that a migrant was on board a flight back to France as part of the 'One In, One Out' deal. She said: "Listen, just a little bit of breaking news, we have been talking, haven't we, about the 'one in, one out' policy? Well, one person has been deported back to France yesterday and we had a flight take off this morning which was believed to have a second person on it." She continued to say that the ITV breakfast show had received confirmation that the flight had now taken off and the Home Office added that the unnamed man was on board. Kate continued: "They will consider that to be a positive step. Two days and two people deported. But we will speak a little bit more with the Business Secretary in a bit."
However, as the news came in, fans at home were still not impressed with the "positive" update. Posting to X/Twitter, one viewer complained: "So that's 31,000 in and one out? What a joke. We need to remove ourselves very quickly from the human rights convention."
Another viewer suggested a better plan for Sir Keir Starmer, writing: "All Starmer has to do is withdraw from the human rights legislation as it applies to immigrants, pass a law preventing Solicitors aiding them, preventing appeals and stop all immigration for 5 years. When you're PM with a massive majority you can change anything you want!"
A third person complained: "Another day, yet another negative conversation about people seeking asylum!! Half the story as usual." While one more added: "Why never any mention of the other 35,000 deportations not under this scheme? Anyone would think you're biased."
Someone else penned: "One out, 50,000 in. That's the record. That's the 'success story.' A single deportation trumpeted across the headlines while boat after boat after boat keeps landing.
"It's like bailing out the Titanic with a teacup. Like fighting a house fire by blowing out a birthday candle. The scale is so grotesque it borders on parody."
They continued: "Labour crow over one man on a flight, while under their watch fifty thousand have poured in. Add that to the millions waved through by the Tories and you see the pattern: two wings of the same bird, flying Britain into the ground.
"This isn't border policy - it's theatre. And the punchline is always the same: the joke is on us."
