Keeping your home clean can sometimes feel like an uphill battle, but according to one professional cleaner, we could be making our jobs harder for ourselves by having items that collect dirt and dust easily.
If your floors get scuffed and marked easily, or you're forever having to dust your ornaments with intricate parts, it could be because of the type of furniture you have.
One cleaning expert took to TikTok to share the 8 items she will "never have" in her home after working as a domestic cleaner in other people's houses, as she knows how difficult they are to maintain.
They range from flooring choices to furniture pieces, including some common bathroom items that most of us have.
She explained: "After cleaning houses for a while, I find some stuff just so much harder to clean. They can look good and seem like the cleverer purchase. But matte kitchens are awful to keep clean, and black floors show up every hair!"
1. Black floorsThe expert said she would never have black floors in her home. Although it might seem as though they'd be great for "hiding" dirt and making it less obvious when you haven't vacuumed or mopped, she claimed they actually "show up every mark" and are a "pain" to try and keep clean.
2. Curved shower screensThe cleaner described curved shower doors as a "pain", as they often don't fit flush together and can therefore be frustrating to clean. The curved design also makes it harder to vacuum or mop your bathroom floor, as you can't get into the edges as easily.
3. Matte kitchen cabinetsBuying kitchen cabinet doors with a matte finish or using matte paint yourself can make your kitchen look sleek and expensive, but the cleaner joked that she hates whoever invented the trend because fingerprints and other greasy marks show up super easily on the matte surface.
4. Black sinksAnother feature that shows up too much dirt is the black sink. The cleaner said ring marks are a nightmare to get off, which can leave your draining board looking dirty after the first use.
5. BlindsThe cleaner also said she would never have blinds in her house, as she'd prefer to opt for curtains instead. She explained that blinds need to be dusted "daily" to keep up with their cleaning requirements - which isn't something she can be bothered with.
6. Silicone toilet brushesThe expert insisted these brushes are less effective than regular brushes and are also less hygienic. She shared: "It would be quicker to lick the toilet bowl clean!"
7. Black bathroom taps, plugs, and toilet seatsAnother black item the cleaner doesn't like is black accents on the bathroom sink. She claims that when they get chipped or scratched, the marks are obvious and there's "no saving" the finish.
8. Toilet matsPutting a mat under your toilet might help to keep your feet nice and warm during your late-night toilet break, but they're not at all hygienic, according to the cleaner. She said they are often "covered" in particles from your toilet trips - and you're better off just getting cold feet.
