ITV's long-running soap Emmerdale was criticised for adding a "last-minute change" to Monday's (July 28) episode in celebration of England's Women's Euro 2025 win. This came after the tense final saw the Lionesses draw 1-1 with Spain, before winning on penalties in Basel, Switzerland, on Sunday (July 27).
To acknowledge the momentous event, the soap opens up with Bob Hope (played by Tony Audenshaw) clearing up the Woolpack pub while chatting with Mary Goskirk (Louise Jameson) about the football match. While taking down decorations after the win as they reminisced about the match and predicted more future wins for the Lionesses. However, this quick addition to the episode left many fans unimpressed, as one viewer fumed: "OFFS! Give us a break from football! Emmerdale is a soap, which is, you know.....FICTIONAL!" (sic)
