Emmerdale returned to ITV with a violent episode, in which beloved police officer PC Mike Swirling (played by Andy Whitaker) put two villagers in handcuffs. However, despite this, many viewers were left unimpressed with Monday's (August 11) instalment. Tensions split over after Ruby Milligan (Beth Cordingly) confronted Dr Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarka) kissing Ross Barton (Michael Parr).
Ruby was adamant to get revenge as she watched their public display of affection just hours after he was dumped by Ruby's daughter, Steph (Georgia Jay), and stopped by the surgery to humiliate her in front of a waiting room full of patients. Manpreet later got her own back by arriving at the depot to spew comments about Steph, which resulted in fists flying. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, a displeased viewer shared they were unhappy with the episode and commented: "Off to watch Dexter as watching a serial killer is less depressing than watching #emmerdale."
Another remarked: "What a waste of a half an hour that was," as a third complained: "#Emmerdale How do the scriptwriters repeatedly get it so wrong?"
One fumed: "What a waste of time that was. Inane conversation between Vinnie and whatever his name is and a very daft situation between Manpreet and Ruby."
Other viewers defended the episode including one who exclaimed: "Wtf r people moaning how shit that episode was, it was f****** hilarious !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"The best episode in a while. Not every episode needs doom & gloom. Good, lighthearted fun," echoed a sixth.
The showdown became physical after Manpreet brought up Steph and raged: "Grab a notebook and pen because not only are you a terrible wife, you are a car crash of a mother and Steph didn't leave because of me, she left because of you.
"As for Steph, I'm amazed she turned out as well as she did, considering she raised herself. Hang on; that's probably why," the doctor added.
Ruby hit back: "There are certain things I did for Steph's well-being and I did because I love her."
Pointing at their complicated mother and daughter dynamic, Manpreet goaded, "It's not love if it leaves scars," and attempted to walk away. However, an enraged Ruby pulled the doctor back by her hair and dragged her in fury.
With the two women facing a night in the cells, fans will have to stay tuned to see of they can put their differences aside or whether this fight has just added fuel to the fire.
