Arsenal have been informed that they can secure the services of Viktor Gyokeres this summer for £60million. The Gunners' board have prioritised a striker as their main summer transfer target, and the Sporting centre-forward is among their main options. Gyokeres, who celebrates his 27th birthday next month, has become an increasingly appealing prospect due to his impressive goalscoring feats in Portugal.
Sporting are open to negotiations and Arsenal have already initiated discussions in an attempt to seal the deal early. Gyokeres has a record of 95 goals in 100 appearances and would demand a contract exceeding £200,000 per week, placing him among Arsenal's highest earners.
To secure the Swedish international, who had previous stints at Brighton and Coventry before reaching his peak at Sporting, Arsenal may need to shell out more than £7m-a-year net.
However, Arsenal will face stiff competition, with Manchester United also showing interest. Gyokeres is expected to be one of the most coveted players this summer.
It is understood that an agreement is in place for Gyokeres to depart Sporting if a club offers £60m. The Portuguese heavyweights are already setting aside funds for a squad overhaul next season.
The price could escalate if a bidding war ensues. The Gunners also maintain a keen interest in Newcastle striker Alexander Isak and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
There's a significant push to secure early deals to strengthen Mikel Arteta's squad following a disappointing season and two lacklustre transfer windows.
Arteta is a big admirer of Isak, and signing him would be a dream come true, but all signs point to Newcastle refusing to sell. Their chances of retaining him and securing a new contract will increase if they qualify for the Champions League.
Isak has yet to sign a new contract and has been a revelation in the Premier League, also aiding Newcastle in their Carabao Cup triumph.
Arsenal were extremely interested in Sesko last summer and likely would have signed him had the Slovenian not chosen to remain at RB Leipzig for another year.
Sesko, who turns 22 later this month, possesses youth, athleticism, room for improvement, and potential resale value.
However, it's understood that Arsenal's new sporting director Andrea Berta highly rates Gyokeres and has strong connections to facilitate a deal.
This leaves Gyokeres as a likely option for Arsenal, who are prepared to invest substantially this summer to enhance their squad, with Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad set to join and Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams also on their list along with Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia.
