has issued a crucial update on its £50 'Thank you' payments after several customers claimed that they haven't received their share and the money promised still hasn't been paid into customers' accounts. Earlier this year, the building society announced that it would be rewarding its million customers after the group completed its acquisition of Virgin Money.

Around 12 million customers qualified to receive the £50 payments. The payments were planned to start coming to the accounts from April 9. However, many claimed that even after many days, the cash hasn't been received. The issue was highlighted after several users shared it on social media.

One of the users wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "I've had a with them for years.... I've never had anything off them.... I did get notified that myself and my husband would get the £50 but have received nothing yet."

Another wrote: "Hi, got an email at the beginning of April saying I'd be getting my £50 fairer share payment into the account my mortgage comes out of. Still not arrived though? Any idea if I've just been missed off / hoped I'd have not noticed?"

However, the Building Society assured that all the eligible customers will receive the payments as promised.

Writing on X the building society said payments would be made until May 14, depending on the product the customer holds.

A spokesperson told : "If we were able to pay the money into a Nationwide current account, instant access or limited access savings account in your name, we have now done so.

"If we couldn't, and you have a mortgage with us, we paid £50 into the bank account used to pay your mortgage Direct Debit where we were able to do so.

"If we haven't been able to make the payment for any reason into a current account or savings account, we have sent a cheque. Cheques will be sent by May 14, 2025."

Nationwide has stated on its website that funds deposited into an instant access or limited access savings account in your name should have arrived by April 30.

Mortgage holders with the building society should also have received payments into the account linked to their direct debit before April 30.

Other recipients will receive their payments by cheque, which Nationwide has said will be sent by May 14, though delivery may take longer.
