Ruben Amorim heaped praise on Harry Maguire, Senne Lammens and Amad following Manchester United's triumph over Liverpool. The Portuguese coach secured back-to-back Premier League victories for the first time since taking charge at United, clinching success on Merseyside courtesy of Maguire's decisive late header.
Bryan Mbeumo struck the opener inside two minutes to give the visitors an early advantage. Liverpool pressed relentlessly for a leveller and eventually broke through via Cody Gakpo's 78th-minute effort. Gakpo rattled the woodwork on three occasions before eventually beating the goalkeeper. The atmosphere at Anfield intensified as home supporters sensed a potential late winner, yet it was United who found the crucial next goal to secure an away win.
Maguire powered his header past Giorgi Mamardashvili and earned acclaim from Amorim during the United manager's post-match media briefing. "It is really important and we have a club that has a lot of pressure," said Amorim regarding the centre-back's mental resilience.
"It's not easy to play here, but all of them have an opportunity to play for us and then they leave and life is like that. Harry Maguire is really important for us and was today. He is a great example, everything he has been through, a great example of every kid."
Maguire returned to the starting XI against Liverpool - with Leny Yoro relegated to the substitutes' bench - having been omitted from the team that faced Sunderland prior to the international break.
Lammens continued his impressive form following a assured debut against the Black Cats by making crucial saves at Anfield. "He was really important and then sometimes it is a little bit of luck. Two shots on the post, that can change the narrative but he show a lot of character, a lot of quality," Amorim declared.
And when asked about wing-back Amad, Amorim responded: "Amad is doing so well in that position [right wing-back], he was perfect for that position. He was upset when I made the sub, but he had a yellow card, if not he will continue in the game, he struggled these weeks but we are here for him."
