You don't need to buy ketchup in the supermarket, because it is so easy to make at home and you already have all of the ingredients. Ketchup is a popular condiment for Brits to buy in the supermarket, and many of us have a bottle of it in the fridge or in the cupboard at home. It is used with many foods, but will be bought more in the summertime when Brits host barbecues and indulge in some homemade chips, grilled burgers and cooked frozen food.
But you might not realise that you already have the ingredients for tomato ketchup sitting in your kitchen. We love ketchup for its sweet yet tangy flavour, and it's super easy to recreate at home using only four simple ingredients. One TikTok user showed exactly how they make their own homemade ketchup.
TikTok user @hari.pollock simply takes a bowl and mixes the four ingredients, with no cooking or blending involved.
To make homemade ketchup, you will use:
- Tomato puree
- Vinegar
- Sugar
- Salt
As she makes this as she needs it, the measurements change. However, the ratio should stay the same, and the amount of ingredients you need should increase or decrease based on how much ketchup you plan to make.
In her viral clip, this TikTok user adds a tablespoon of tomato puree, two tablespoons of vinegar, a "tiny" amount of sugar and a pinch of salt.
She then uses a spoon to mix the four ingredients together until they are all combined. "You make it for when you need it, and it's made from ingredients that you've probably got on your shelves already," she said.
The simple hack made quite the impression with over 25,000 likes and 10,000 saves on the video-sharing app. People took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the trick.
One person wrote: "Pinch of smoked Paprika, makes a world of difference." Another suggested adding smoked paprika with some garlic and onion granules to make it taste even more flavourful.
A third commented: "Use honey as your sweetener rather than sugar and you get that sweeter aftertaste, also the tiniest splash of Worcestershire sauce hive a slight zing to the top pallette."
