But by virtue of its prime location, one particular seaside town has been hailed by travel experts as being among the best, thanks to its pristine beach, which is under a two-hour journey from London.
The coastal town has landed top spot on 10 best beaches list to visit from is Walton-on-the-Naze. This seaside town, found on the North Sea coast in the Tendring district in , definitely deserves a spot on your next UK coastal adventure list.
Unlike many other UK seaside spots which have been modernised and unfortunately ruined over the years, Walton-on-the-Naze has proudly managed to retain its distinct period character.
This has been achieved thanks to the town's historical significance, strong sense of community pride and the region's active preservation efforts.
Walton-on-the-Naze's distinct architecture, charming coastal atmosphere and historic buildings all contribute to the town's unique appeal and historical character.
But the true gem found in this seaside town is its beach, even being named in 50 best beaches in the UK - the only Essex-based beach to be on the list.
The Telegraph's description said: "For brightly-coloured beach huts and bunting-strung promenades, Walton-on-the-Naze is the place to be."
The Essex coastal spot has seen high praise from all thanks to its impressive beach water quality with a sandy beach that's home to more than 1,000 huts.

Visitors here are truly spoiled for choice when it comes to finding ways to fill your sun-drenched days including fishing and crabbing off the end of the pier to boat trips through the maze of the Walton Backwaters.
The Telegraph added: "A mile north of the beach, the headland is a site of special scientific interest, and its shrubland is noted for containing multitudes of fossils."
Another added beach bonus in Walton-on-the-Naze is its sand which is said to be the perfect consistency for building sandcastles, making it a popular choice for family holidays.
There is also no shortage of facilities here catering for beach-goers from a number of inviting beachside cafés to classic seaside amusements.
For those wanting to bring along their four-legged friend to join in on the seaside fun, it's important to be aware there is a ban on dogs in some areas of the beach between May 1 and September 30.
To get to Walton-on-the-Naze, Greater Anglia operates trains from London Liverpool Street with a change at Thorpe-le-Soken with the journey taking roughly an hour and 40 minutes.
One review on TripAdvisor wrote: "Clean and lovely beach with friendly locals and even shell and fossil hunting, perfect. Nice easy access and miles of clean sand to explore for families that's ideal for walkers."
Another added: "I love Walton beach as it's so clean and the sea is crystal clear. It's great for families and If you are really lucky you may very well find a shark's tooth in its clear beach waters."
