The Delhi Government has declared November 7 as a public holiday on the occassion of 'Chhath Pooja'. ANI reported that the Delhi CM Atishi wrote to the Chief Secretary asking for a necessary notification to be issued in this regard. The letter by CM reads, "Chhath Pooja is an important festival for the people of NCT of Delhi. Accordingly, Government of NCT of Delhi has decided to declare 7th November 2024 as Public Holiday on account of ‘Chhat Pooja’."Bihar schools will remain closed between November 6 and November 8 for Chhath. The schools will reopen on November 11, 2024.During Chhath Puja a large number of devotees take a holy dip in the Yamuna River and to offer prayer to Sun god “Surya”. ANI reports that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is obstructing Purvanchalis from celebrating Chhath Puja by keeping the gates closed. In a video shared by Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, a member of the Purvanchal community alleges that the Delhi Development Authority is preventing their access to the Ghat by keeping the gates closed. The CM has critisized BJP for engaging in cheap politics.

With Chhath Puja approaching, people from across the country and abroad are making a beeline for Bihar and Jharkhand via trains, buses and other modes of transport. Much like every year, the public carrier remains overcrowded with passengers during this time of year.
