Days After Attack On Hindus In Canada, Fresh K-Threat Forces Brampton Temple To Cancel Event

Days after Hindu devotees were attacked by Khalistani radicals in Canada, Brampton Triveni Community Centre was forced to cancel a planned event by the Indian consulate over a possible “extremely high and imminent threat level of violent protests". This comes amid the ongoing diplomatic standoff between India and Canada, while India has been maintaining that the main issue between the two countries is that of Canada giving space to pro-Khalistan elements operating from Canadian soil with impunity. The event, scheduled for November 17, was to be organised at the Brampton Triveni Mandir by the Indian Consulate. The event was being organised to provide a chance to Indian-origin Hindus and Sikhs to renew their essential life certificates. “Please be advised that the Life Certificate Event scheduled at Brampton Triveni Mandir by the Indian Consulate on November 17, 2024, has been cancelled. This is due to official intelligence from Peel Regional Police, stating that there is an Extremely High and Imminent Threat Level of violent protests,” Brampton Triveni Community Centre said in a statement. It has urged the Peel Police to address the circulating threats against Brampton Triveni Mandir and ensure safety. “We apologize to all community members who were depending on the event. We are deeply saddened that Canadians now feel unsafe coming to Hindu Temples in Canada. We call on Peel Police to address the threats being circulated against Brampton Triveni Mandir and provide security guarantees to the Canadian Hindu Community and the general public,” the temple administration added.Earlier this month, Khalistani radicals had attacked a group of devotees outside the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton, Canada. The Indian High Commission in Canada condemned the "violent disruption" by 'anti-India' elements and raised concerns over the safety of Indian nationals in the country"We have seen violent disruption today (Nov 3) orchestrated by anti-India elements outside the consular camp co-organised with the Hindu Sabha Mandir, Brampton, near Toronto," the statement by the High Commission.Videos of the incident, widely shared online, including by Canadian MPs, showed Khalistani supporters wielding sticks and attacking devotees outside the temple. Three people were arrested and a Peel police officer was suspended after the incident. The Canadian Police has arrested a Brampton residence on charges of assault. Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly denounced the “deliberate attack” on the Hindu temple, calling the “cowardly attempts to intimidate” Indian diplomats unacceptable.
