Lata Mangeshkar was known as the Nightingale of India for a reason. A Bharat Ratna awardee, she also received honours including Padma Bhushan, Padma Vibhushan and Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Fondly called Lata Didi by her family members and fans, she appeared in the Guinness World Records as the most-recorded artist. As per the statistics available in the public domain, Lata Mangeshkar has more than 50,000 in 14 languages.

The legendary singer surprised her English listeners by singing Canadian singer Anne Murray’s You Needed Me. It was the first time that Lata Didi had sung an English song. About Lata Mangeshkar Born as Hema Mangeshkar on September 28, 1929, Lata Didi was one of the most celebrated and revered singers of India. Having started her career at an early age, she took the responsibility of taking the legacy of her family forward. She was the eldest of five siblings.Lata Mangeshkar died at the age of 92 on February 6, 2022, at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. She was given state honours at her funeral at Shivaji Park. The veteran singer was admitted to the hospital due to COVID-19. She was then diagnosed with pneumonia. After several weeks of hospitalisation, she breathed her last after multiple organ failure.
