'State Government Must...': What Mayawati Said On BSP Tamil Nadu Chief's Murder

Chennai: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Friday condemned the murder of Tamil Nadu party president Armstrong in Chennai and urged the state government to ensure that those responsible are punished. Armstrong was hacked to death by an unidentified group of six people near his residence in Chennai’s Perambur on Friday evening.ALSO READ: BSP Tamil Nadu Chief's Murder Linked To History Sheeter's Death, Police Probe RevealsIn a post on X, the BSP supremo wrote, “The gruesome killing of Mr. K. Armstrong, Tamil Nadu state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) president, outside his Chennai house is highly deplorable and condemnable. An advocate by profession, he was known as a strong Dalit voice in the state. The state Govt. must punish the guilty.”The accused hacked Armstrong while he was in discussion with party workers. Armstrong was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead. CCTV footage from near his residence showed the attackers escaping on a motorcycle.Meanwhile, Chennai Police formed 10 special teams to investigate the murder of the BSP Tamil Nadu president. On Saturday, they arrested eight suspects in connection with the case.

Speaking to news agency ANI, Asra Garg, Addl COP, Chennai North, said, "In the murder case we have secured 8 suspects so far. This is a preliminary investigation...Ten teams have been formed by us. We are on the job to bring the offenders to light. After the interrogation of these suspects, we will be able to find the motive behind the murder...Some sharp weapons have been used.”Earlier, BSP workers and supporters blocked a road in Chennai to protest Armstrong's murder. A large crowd also gathered outside Rajiv Gandhi General Hospital in Chennai, where Armstrong's body was brought.Sources told Times Now that Mayawati will likely visit Chennai on Saturday to pay her respects to Armstrong. The opposition has attacked the ruling DMK government in Tamil Nadu over the deteriorating law and order situation in the state.
