COIMBATORE: Former AIADMK minister Dindigul C Sreenivasan’s granddaughter Divyapriya, 29, died when a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) she was travelling in overturned on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat Road on Thursday evening.
The accident happened when Divyapriya, her husband Karthik, 30, and five other family members were returning to Arapalayam in Madurai after spending two days in Ooty in the Nilgiris district.
Karthik’s younger brother Parthiban, who was driving the MPV, lost control of the vehicle when it approached the first hairpin bend near Kallar on the Coonoor-Mettupalayam Ghat Road. The vehicle hit a roadside bund and overturned. Divyapriya sustained severe injuries and died on the spot. Her husband Karthik and family members Parameswari and Valarmathi sustained injuries.
Other motorists alerted the Mettupalayam police, who rushed to the spot and sent the injured people to Mettupalayam Govt Hospital. They sent the dead body to the same hospital for postmortem.
