COIMBATORE: The Selvapuram police in Coimbatore city arrested a 35-year-old man on Thursday for sexually assaulting a Class X boy.
The arrested man has been identified as S Ashokkumar, 35, of Ponnaiahrajapuram. Ashokkumar, who was running a catering service, financially supported a private tuition centre for school students.
A few days ago, he allegedly took a Class X boy, who was playing cricket on a ground, to his catering service office where he sexually harassed him. The boy revealed the incident to his father, who approached the Selvapuram police. The police registered a case against Ashokkumar under Section 10 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault) of the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act. He was remanded in judicial custody.
On Wednesday, the East all women police registered an FIR against a youth for raping and impregnating a minor girl.
Police said the 15-year-old girl completed Class X and was residing with her parents near Kalapatti in Coimbatore city. V Sridhar, 23, of SITRA in the city, fell in love with the girl and raped her on multiple occasions from December 2024. The girl became pregnant. The doctors in the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) confirmed the pregnancy on Wednesday and alerted the all women police.
The police registered a case against the youth under various sections of the POCSO Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigations were on. The youth was yet to be arrested, police said.
