Coimbatore: Minister for milk and dairy development Mano Thangaraj, inaugurated an exclusive outlet ‘Paneer Hut' for paneer sales at RS Puram in the city on Thursday.
Speaking at the inauguration, the minister invited more farmers to collaborate with the Tamil Nadu Cooperative Milk Producers' Federation Limited (Aavin), as the state aims to increase the target of daily milk production from 35 lakh litres to 40 lakh litres per day. "Suppliers across all districts have been asked to target to increase the daily production to 40 lakh litres," the minister said.
Thangaraj further pointed out, "The price offered to farmers by Aavin remains constant throughout the year. On the contrary, this might vary periodically or based on seasonal production in private. Hence, we are inviting farmers to collaborate with Aavin. Even during disasters, we were the only ones on the frontline supplying milk, while most private companies backed off."
Replying to a question on the high price of Aavin's full cream milk variant, the minister said, "The full cream milk has nearly 6 % fat, whereas the delight variant has a fat content between 3-4%, which is present naturally while extracted from cows. From a health perspective, the consumption of full-cream milk should be reduced, which is why that variant is priced higher. The delight pack is affordable, offering easy access to people from all walks of life."
