Namakkal: The Tamil Nadu Sand Truck Owners Association on Thursday decided to call off the indefinite strike it was planning from May 23 after mineral resources minister Raghupati committed to reopening sand quarries soon.

During a press conference at his office here on the day, Sella Rasamani, president, Tamil Nadu Sand Truck Owners Association, said it was to draw the state govt's attention to their demand to resume operations at the currently inactive sand quarries that they announced the indefinite strike.

"Minister Raghupati held a meeting with us at his office in Chennai on Tuesday and assured us that steps will be taken to reopen the sand quarries soon. He also promised to look into our other demands. Hence, we are calling off the planned indefinite strike," he said.

Rasamani stressed on the need for the regularization of quarries and crushers to ensure a steady supply of quality M-sand, P-sand and gravel at affordable prices, while advocating for enforcement of load regulations to prevent overloading and promote safety on TN roads.
