Guwahati: Five more persons were arrested on Monday across Assam on treason charges for posting pro-Pakistan comments on social media in the ongoing crackdown by Assam Police since the Pahalgam massacre.
The chief minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Monday wrote on X that 24 ‘traitors' have been arrested so far for "defending Pakistan on Indian soil" following the Pahalgam terror attack.
The five arrested on Monday have been identified as Normal Hoque of Goalpara, Seikh Saroj of Tamulpur, Firajul Islam of Dhubri, Kamal Uddin of Sribhumi and Samsul Haque of Kamrup .
Among those apprehended so far is the legislator from Dhing constituency representing AIUDF Aminul Islam.
Sarma, while addressing a panchayat poll rally in Sonitpur district, reiterated strong action against anyone supporting Pakistan. "We, Indians, have to remain united and reply together for the Pahalgam attack. We have to support PM Narendra Modi ji at this moment so that he can not only eliminate the terrorists but also ensure Pakistan never dares to cast its evil eye on us again," he added.
