Silchar: Various organisations conducted a candlelight vigil in Sribhumi to protest against the recent terrorist attack on Hindu pilgrims in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which was reportedly carried out by militants supported by Pakistan.
On Sunday evening, people from diverse backgrounds assembled at Shambhu Sagar Park near Rabindranath Tagore's statue to pay respects to the victims and express their opposition to the violence.
Rajya Sabha MP and former legislator Mission Ranjan Das described the Pahalgam incident as a "dark chapter in global history". He highlighted the Modi govt's strict diplomatic actions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, closure of the Attari border, cancellation of Pakistani nationals' visas, and orders for Pakistani defence officials to leave the High Commission within seven days.
Convener Arup Roy said, "If America could eliminate Osama bin Laden, why can't we erase Pakistan, the epicenter of terrorism, from the world map?" The participants honoured the deceased pilgrims by lighting candles and showed support for the affected families while calling for enhanced anti-terrorism measures.
