Elderly man held for assaulting step-granddaughter

Kanpur: The police arrested a 72-year-old man for raping his 33-year-old step-granddaughter and impregnating her. The incident, which occurred in September 2024, came to light after the woman underwent abortion and her condition worsened. The woman's mother then approached the police to file a complaint.

Inspector Santosh Shukla of Chakeri stated that the step-uncle and grandfather of the victim were arrested, and further investigation is ongoing.

The woman's mother said that in September 2024, her 33-year-old daughter went to stay at her maternal grandmother's house for a few days. During her stay, her grandmother's 72-year-old stepbrother assaulted her. When she became pregnant, an abortion was performed.

After the abortion, the woman's condition worsened and the investigation report revealed the incident. Upon inquiry, the daughter disclosed the entire incident. The victim's mother filed a complaint with the Chakeri police against the step-grandfather for assaulting her daughter. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a report. Station in-charge Santosh Kumar Shukla stated that the accused was arrested and sent to jail.

The inspector said that the accused had no prior criminal record and was living separately from his family for the past few years. The police have also recorded statements from other family members and neighbours.
