Retired government employees demand justice in Mangaluru protest

Send Push
MANGALURU: It is not appropriate for retired govt employees to protest. We demand justice for the many years of service we have rendered. Do not force us, the elderly, to take to the streets, said Cyril Robert D'Souza, general secretary of the Dakshina Kannada District Karnataka State Retired Government Employees Forum.

Speaking at a protest organised by the forum in front of the Mini Vidhana Soudha in the city on Tuesday, he demanded that the amounts for DCRG, commutation, and encashment of earned leave for employees who retired between July 1, 2022, and July 31, 2024, be calculated according to the Seventh Pay Commission and revised orders be issued. Retired govt employees, wearing black badges, spoke at the protest meeting, highlighting that govt employees provided emergency services during the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have already brought our demands to the attention of the finance department through the Thasildar. Not only in the district but across the state, senior retired employees have been forced to protest today. This should not continue, and justice should be served, they said.

District Coordinator Stany Tauro expressed regret that retired govt employees had to take to the streets to protest. The govt should take this seriously and deliver justice, he said. Retired senior govt employee Vittal Shettigar said: I have been retired for many years, but seeing the injustice faced by retired govt employees, I couldn't stay silent and came to protest.
