Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani on Friday congratulated Rohit Sharma on the official unveiling of a stand named after India’s ODI captain at the iconic Wankhede Stadium . The honour marks a significant milestone in the career of one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, who has been a pillar for both the national team and the Mumbai Indians franchise.

The Mumbai Cricket Association ( MCA ) formally inaugurated four new commemorative spaces at the Wankhede — the Sharad Pawar Stand, the Rohit Sharma Stand , the Ajit Wadekar Stand, and the MCA Office Lounge — in memory of former MCA President Amol Kale.

In a heartfelt tribute, MI shared a video of Akash Ambani praising Rohit's remarkable journey.

Who's that IPL player?

"Rohit, Congratulations. A young boy from Borivali, who now has a name on one of the most iconic world venues of cricket - Wankhede Stadium. From representing Mumbai state, to going on to playing and leading our country, to of course being an absolute legend for us at the Mumbai Indians. This is a thing that can inspire a whole new generation. From a young boy from Borivali to being one of the best cricketers of the world,” Ambani said.

“Congratulations on a fantastic achievement and I can't wait to walk out for our last home game for this season in Wankhede with your name on the stand. Congratulations and best wishes," MI owner added.

Rohit, a five-time IPL-winning captain with MI, has been instrumental in transforming the franchise into one of the most successful in league history. With 19,700 international runs in 499 matches, including 49 centuries and a record three ODI double hundreds, Rohit's batting legacy is among the finest in modern cricket.

He holds the highest individual ODI score of 264 and is known for redefining the role of an opener across formats. Recently, he retired from Test cricket, ending with 4,301 runs, including 12 centuries.

Having led India to T20 and Champions Trophy titles, Rohit remains a symbol of calm leadership and fearless stroke play — a legacy now immortalised at the Wankhede Stadium.
