AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Titans ’ Sai Sudharsan walked into the press conference room with a bright expression, seemingly aware of the fact that he would face questions about his Test selection instead of the game against CSK on Sunday.

“It feels great, very special and surreal. Any young cricketer who starts playing cricket wants to play Test cricket, it’s the ultimate goal. I’m really grateful. I know my parents will be happy today,” he said.

Asked if he had spoken to his family post-selection, he shared, “I actually had a chance. I was on a video call with my parents and my brother. So, we’re really happy about that. I also talked to some family members and close friends. They were very happy and I could see that on their faces. But it’s just the start. I think there’s a lot more to the story to add up to.”

Who's that IPL player?

Questioned about his preferred batting position, the tall left-hander said, “Playing for the country itself is a very big privilege. I don’t think I’m in a position to choose which position I want to play.”

Discussing his preparation for switching formats, he explained, “Transitioning from white ball to red ball takes a bit of time. I focus a lot more on my basics and patience. Even outside the field, the more patient you are, the more it reflects inside the field. So, Test cricket is all about patience and longevity. The more I focus on that, the more I’ll be aware of it. It will be a great experience.”

As for the game, after their winning streak was halted by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), GT will now run into CSK seeking to gain momentum before the playoffs. A win will give them a top-two spot. GT’s previously untested middle order faced significant challenges against LSG. Sherfane Rutherford and M Shahrukh Khan demonstrated their capabilities beyond the established top three of captain Shubman Gill , Sudharsan and Jos Buttler.

However, concerns persist about the lower-middle order, comprising Rahul Tewatia, Arshad Khan and Rashid Khan, whose batting performances have been subpar.
