Weston Cage, son of Nicolas Cage, has been sentenced for felony assault after allegedly attacking his mother, Christina Fulton. The 34-year-old avoided jail as a Los Angeles judge placed him in a two-year mental health program. The lawsuit claims he "snapped" and attacked the 57-year-old actress outside his home.
Los Angeles County Judge Enrique Monguia acknowledged that Weston Cage has a qualifying mental health disorder, which played a major role in the incident. According to Rolling Stone, the judge noted that Cage was experiencing a breakdown at the time of the offense.
Before the sentencing, Weston's lawyer stated that he was already undergoing mental health treatment. He mentioned that Weston was feeling better than he had in years, was in a positive mindset, preparing for marriage, and had moved to a new location, showing significant progress.
Fulton, who was present at the hearing, supported the judge’s decision before recalling the alleged attack. She stated that nothing could have prepared her for the night of April 28, 2024, when her son nearly took her life. The Hard Drive actress claimed Weston was “furious” and in a manic state when she contacted him.
Fulton claimed that Weston pushed her to the floor of an elevator and began suffocating her with his body weight. She said he pressed his thumb into her eye socket, causing severe pain and temporary blindness. As the attack continued, she felt herself losing consciousness.
Goldstein told People that Weston is grateful the court recognized his ongoing rehabilitation efforts and approved mental health diversion as allowed under the Penal Code.
Weston's lawyer stated that the incident resulted from a mental health crisis, which his mother also acknowledged in court. He expressed confidence that Weston would stay on the right path and that the charges would be dismissed after completing the diversion program.
