'Embarassed' Jos Buttler makes it up with the bat for Gujarat Titans

Jos Buttler put the disappointment of a dropped catch behind him to come up with a match-winning performance with the bat in Gujarat Titans ' impressive eight-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in the Indian Premier League on Wednesday.

Buttler failed to hold onto a straightforward catch after Mohammed Siraj induced an edge off RCB opener Phil Salt's bat in the first over of the match. But after the visitors restricted RCB to 169/8, Buttler led the run-chase with his unbeaten knock of 73 off 39 balls, including 5 fours and 6 sixes.

Talking about it after the match, England's former white-ball captain said he felt very "embarrassed" to miss the catch, but it made him more determined to deliver with the bat.

"I don't know, pretty embarrassed. We know Salt is a dangerous player. I barely got a glove on it and it hit me in the chest, so (I) was determined to score some runs," said the England stalwart after the match.

But the lapse didn't cost GT much, as Siraj returned to clean up Salt for 14. He finished with figures of 3 for 19 and was named the 'Player of the Match'.

"As a team, we did not field well... fielded poorly. Had we fielded better, myself included, we would have chased less. Nice win and well deserved, really enjoyed it. Felt the bowlers did a fantastic job," said the 34-year-old England great.

Coming in to bat at No. 3, Buttler was initially hesitant but soon gained confidence and displayed remarkable control, unleashing powerful strokes with consistent precision throughout his innings..

"Tried to play with freedom and intent -- had a few months of unenjoyable cricket, trying to give my best and excited to be here. There was a bit in the wicket, so the two openers (Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill) played sensibly to take the sting out of that and set up the chase," he said.

Sudharsan scored 49 off 36 balls and added 75 runs with Buttler to take the game away from RCB. Gill contributed 14.

Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford (30 not out off 18) ensured no more wickets fell and completed the win with 13 balls to spare.

"We have got a lot of bases covered -- fantastic seam-bowling unit, the spinners and a fantastic batting unit as well," Buttler concluded.
