Amavasya holds a great religious and spiritual significance among Hindus. This day is purely dedicated to worship ancestors and people perform various puja rituals associated with them such performing Pitru Tarpan, pind daan, organising Gayatri Path for the salvation of the ancestors.
According to astrology, New Moon is considered the phase when Moon is almost invisible in the sky. During this time, the energy of Moon is very less and Moon represents the emotions, and feelings. So people utilize this opportunity to perform various spiritual activities such as meditation and yog. Even taking holy bath in Ganga river is also considered as auspicious and highly meritorious.
People call priests and brahmins at home and feed them sattvik food in the name of their ancestors and also give them clothes and dakshina along with that. To appease the forefathers, the eldest male member of the family perform the Pitru Tarpan and then seek blessings.

5. Some organise Gayatri Path for the salvation of the ancestors.
6. Feeding crows, ants, dogs and cows on this day is considered highly meritorious.
7. Invite Brahmins or qualified priest at home and feed them with sattvik food and give them clothes and dakshina.
