Jake Paul says he's preparing for the most important fight of his boxing career , and he’s promising to humiliate former WBC middleweight champion Julio César Chávez Jr. when the two face off on June 28 in Southern California.
Paul made the comments in an appearance on the TMZ Sports TV show (which airs nightly on FS1), joining host Babcock to discuss the upcoming fight, his opponent, and developments within his Most Valuable Promotions (MVP) company.
"Man, I'm feeling better than ever," Jake Paul said. "This is going to be my breakout performance."
Paul, 28, acknowledged the difficulty of the matchup but made clear who he believes will leave the ring embarrassed.
"It's going to be a tough fight, you know. Someone's going to get embarrassed, and it's not going to be me. But I'm training harder than ever. I know this is my toughest opponent yet. Maybe not the biggest name opponent, but it's still going to be a super, super good fight."
Julio César Chávez Jr., 39, is the son of Mexican boxing icon Julio César Chávez Sr. and has an extensive professional résumé that includes 64 pro fights. While Julio Jr. has faced criticism throughout his career for inconsistent performances and questions about his work ethic, Paul noted that the former champ is approaching this bout with renewed seriousness.
"I've heard he's taking this fight more seriously than any in his career," Paul told TMZ Sports.
The June 28 card is not limited to Paul vs. Chávez Jr. Former UFC bantamweight champion Holly Holm is set to return to boxing after more than a decade away from the sport. Holm has signed with Jake Paul’s MVP Promotions and will face Yolanda Vega in a 10-round professional boxing match , her first since 2013.
Holm, widely recognized for her historic 2015 knockout win over Ronda Rousey, is returning to her boxing roots, having been a multiple-time world champion before her MMA career. Her comeback marks another step in Paul’s ongoing campaign to elevate women’s boxing through his promotion.
This move follows MVP’s success with Amanda Serrano , who headlined multiple cards under Paul’s promotional guidance. During the interview, Paul was asked whether he would consider signing other major female fighters, specifically Claressa Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and undisputed world champion across multiple divisions.
Although Shields has publicly criticized Jake Paul in the past, he didn’t dismiss the possibility of working with her.
(No quote was provided in the original about this, but the implication is Paul is open to business despite criticism.)
