Apple 's rumored iPhone 17 'Slim' could feature a new display technology, potentially allowing for an exceptionally thin design. According to industry sources, a Taiwanese company called Novatek has developed a new type of OLED display that may be used in next year's iPhones.

The innovative technology, known as Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI), combines the touch sensor layer and display driver into a single unit. This integration could significantly reduce the overall thickness of smartphone displays, paving the way for slimmer devices.

DigiTimes reports that Novatek is expected to begin production of these TDDI OLED panels in the second quarter of 2025. The publication speculates that Apple might be one of Novatek's first customers for this technology.

While it's unclear if Apple will adopt Novatek's TDDI displays for the iPhone 17 lineup, industry insiders suggest the tech giant may initially test the technology on other products such as iPads or Apple Watches.

The rumored iPhone 17 'Slim' is speculated to replace the current Plus model in Apple's lineup. Some reports indicate it could feature a 6.6-inch display and potentially command a higher price point than even the Pro Max series.

However, DigiTimes notes that Apple's plans are not confirmed, and the company may choose to implement the technology differently or on alternative devices.

As with all rumors, details about the iPhone 17 'Slim' remain speculative. Previous leaks have suggested varying features, including a potential single-camera setup, though such claims are unverified.
