Facebook parent company Meta has announced that it is bringing the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses , its smart glasses with AI, live translation and other features, to India soon. The company further said that these smart glasses will also be available in other markets, including Mexico and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“And coming soon, we’re launching Ray-Ban Meta glasses in Mexico, India, and the United Arab Emirates. We can’t wait for more people across the globe to get in on the action,” the company said, highlighting that the glasses were recently made available in several European countries, including the UK earlier this month.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses: Features and more
Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses are a pair of smart glasses developed through a collaboration between Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook) and EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of Ray-Ban. The core features of these smart glasses include:
Capture: They are equipped with built-in cameras that allow users to take photos and record videos from their first-person perspective, hands-free.
Audio: They feature open-ear speakers integrated into the frames, enabling users to listen to music, podcasts, and calls without blocking out ambient sounds. They also have a multi-microphone system (usually five microphones) for clear voice capture during calls and for voice commands.
Voice Control: Utilising “Hey Meta” command, users can interact with Meta AI to perform various tasks using voice commands, such as taking photos and videos, making calls, sending messages, and controlling media.
Live Translation: A key feature is the ability to perform real-time translation of conversations. Users can ask “Hey Meta, start live translation” to translate what someone speaking another language is saying, which is then played through the glasses' speakers.
Livestreaming: Users can livestream their point of view directly to Facebook and Instagram.
Meta AI Integration: Powered by Meta AI, the glasses can answer questions about what the wearer is seeing (“Hey Meta, look and tell me about that monument”), set reminders, and even help with creative tasks like suggesting image captions.
Ray-Ban Meta glasses have an IPX4 water-resistant rating, meaning they can withstand splashes and light rain but are not designed for submersion.
