NEW DELHI: Air India captain Zoya Agarwal recently shared her experience meeting Ratan Tata on social media following his death. The industrialist passed away in Mumbai after a brief illness at the age of 86.
Social media has been filled with tributes for Tata, who was known for his business achievements, charity work, and scholarship programs.
Captain Zoya recounted an incident when she flew Ratan Tata from New York to Delhi. After the flight, she asked him for a photograph. Instead of allowing her to stand up from her seat, Tata insisted she remain seated, saying, “Captain, this is your throne. You've earned it.” He positioned himself behind her for the photograph, which left a significant impact on her.
“This is your throne. You've earned it,” Tata told her, which she shared on social media.
Captain Zoya posted the photograph showing her with Tata, commending his “humility and grace.”
She stated that the photo was initially for personal inspiration but felt compelled to share it following Tata's death to express her gratitude and admiration. She mentioned that Tata’s influence will endure in the hearts of many.
“I asked for a picture at the end of the flight, and as I went to get up, he stopped me and said, ‘Captain, this is your throne. You've earned it.’ He came behind me—such a humble gesture that solidified my beliefs about leadership,” wrote Captain Zoya on X.
“This photo was meant for my personal inspiration, but today, I feel compelled to share it to dedicate my gratitude, inspiring and melancholy for a legend whose legacy will live on,” she wrote.
In a statement, Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran said, "It is with a profound sense of loss that we bid farewell to Mr Ratan Naval Tata, a truly uncommon leader whose immeasurable contributions have shaped not only the Tata Group but also the very fabric of our nation."
Ratan Tata’s final rites took place at Mumbai’s Worli Crematorium.
