MUMBAI: NCP functionary Nawab Malik 's son-in-law Sameer Khan suffered a brain clot after his driver crashed into him with his SUV outside a Kurla hospital on Tuesday, pushing him for about 10-15ft and pinning him between the vehicle and the boundary wall of an SRA building.

The driver, Abdul Ansari , told police he accidentally accelerated instead of hitting the brakes. He knocked down a few parked bikes and crashed into Khan. Police have prima facie ruled out foul play. Doctors have kept Khan, who also sustained fractures to his ribs, shoulder and neck, under observation in the ICU for 48 hours.

Malik's brother Kaptan Malik said Khan and his wife, Nilofar, were waiting outside Criticare hospital after a routine check-up, for their car.

"The driver did not pick up their calls. A security guard went and told the driver, who was fast asleep, that Sameer was calling him. In a hurry, Ansari started the vehicle. Seeing the vehicle approach, Sameer moved forward, but the driver accelerated it and rammed into him," he said. Nilofar escaped with minor injuries.
