New Delhi: The govt is likely to hold a special joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament on November 26 to mark the 75th anniversary of adoption of the Constitution.

The Winter Session may start from November 25 and the special joint sitting is likely to be held in the Central Hall of the Samvidhan Sadan (Old parliament Building), where the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution in 1949, sources said. The Constitution came into effect on January 26, 1950.

While earlier, November 26 used to be celebrated as National Law Day , in 2015 the Modi govt announced it as Constitution Day , marking the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar .

Sources said elaborate planning is under way and a series of activities have been planned, including the making of documentaries, translating the debates of Constituent Assembly in nearly two dozen languages, and a public march to mark the significance of the Constitution.

Both NDA and INDIA blocs have been engaged in competitive politics in projecting themselves as “protectors and followers” of the Constitution, particularly since Lok Sabha election campaign started. While Congress-led INDIA grouping has been slamming BJP-led alliance for “destroying” the Constitution and constitutional values, BJP and its allies have been targetting Congress. Govt in July this year notified June 25 as ‘Samvidhan Hatya Diwas’ in remembrance of Emergency.
