NAVI MUMBAI: A 48-year-old Sewri resident died after slipping into the septic tank of her home in a Malvan village . Her husband, a 51-year-old who had undergone an angioplasty some time ago, died of a heart attack on finding her dead.

The couple were on a visit to their ancestral village, Masure, for the Ganesh festival . The man's 75-year-old mother and two children of his relatives accompanied them, while the couple's son stayed back in Mumbai.

The couple had bought a house there four years ago and were planning to perform a puja during this visit. Around 3pm on Thursday, the wife, Usha Hadkar, went to clean the septic tank cover, while the others were away. On his return, the husband, Vipin Hadkar, looked for her everywhere in the house and even reached out to some relatives nearby. He then found her footwear near the septic tank and spotted its broken cover. On seeing her body inside the septic tank, he reportedly suffered a heart attack and died on the spot.

Vipin's elderly mother raised an alarm, after which the bodies were taken to a primary health centre . Malvan police inspector Pravin Kolhe said, "Relatives of the couple took the bodies to Mumbai for the last rites. An accidental death report has been filed."
