NEW DELHI: Delhi's newly elected chief minister Atishi on Saturday urged Delhiites to make Arvind Kejriwal CM again in the upcoming assembly election, adding that if he is not elected then the Bharatiya Janata Party will "hatch a conspiracy" and take away all the benefits that the government is providing.
Atishi was sworn in as the chief minister of Delhi on Saturday, making history as the youngest leader to hold the top position. Along with her, five cabinet ministers including Saurabh Bhardwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, Imran Hussain, and Mukesh Ahlawat also took the oath of office.
Right after swearing in, Atishi hosted a press briefing where she said, " Arvind Kejriwal resigned from the post of chief minister, setting an example of honesty and morality in the politics of this country. He said that the court's decision alone is not enough for me. I will go to the public court and until the people of Delhi tell me that I am honest, I will not sit on the Chief Minister's chair."
She also believed that this is the first time in the history of this world where such a leader set an example of honesty and morality which Kejriwal set.
" Now all of us Delhiites have to do only one thing now- to make Arvind Kejriwal the chief minister of Delhi again in the elections to be held in February. If the people of Delhi do not make Arvind Kejriwal the Chief Minister of Delhi, then the Bharatiya Janata Party will hatch a conspiracy and end the free electricity that the people of Delhi are getting today. The government schools which Arvind Kejriwal has improved will be reinstated, mohalla clinics will be closed, treatment in hospitals will be stopped, women's free buses and travel will be stopped," she added.
The swearing-in ceremony took place at Raj Niwas. At the event Atishi's parents, Tripta Wahi and Vijay Singh, were present during the ceremony at Raj Niwas.
Atishi expressed mixed feelings about the leadership change, saying, "I am happy about the trust placed in me by outgoing CM Arvind Kejriwal but am also sad that he has resigned from his post." She emphasized her commitment to working hard to bring Kejriwal back as Chief Minister after the upcoming elections, adding, "First of all, I would like to thank the popular CM of Delhi, AAP national convener, and my guru - Arvind Kejriwal. This can be done only in AAP, only under his leadership, that a first-time politician becomes the CM of a state."
