Nix Omar nomination over NC threats: BJP

Send Push
BJP has decided to urge Election Commission of India (ECI) to reject or cancel the nomination papers of National Conference vice president and former J&K CM Omar Abdullah for allegedly threatening people with death if they don't support his party.

"A former sarpanch of Ganderbal, with Omar Abdullah's consent, has threatened that anyone who does not support the NC flag will be killed. We will approach ECI demanding the cancellation of Omar's nomination from Ganderbal," BJP J&K unit spokesperson Sunil Sethi said on Sunday.

Sethi added that an additional deputy commissioner had filed a complaint against Omar. "It is very troubling that Omar is questioning Supreme Court 's decision on the hanging of Afzal Guru for the Parliament attack," he said.

He also suggested that Omar, sensing a possible electoral defeat, is contesting from two seats and making erratic and confusing statements.
