KOLKATA: A Trinamool Congress (TMC) activist was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, Bharatpur, a senior police official said on Thursday.
Sasthi Ghosh was on his way home Wednesday night when the attackers confronted him and "repeatedly attacked him with a sharp tool," the officer said.
Ghosh was found lying in a pool of blood on the street and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, a police official said.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the motive may be a personal dispute over property, though the exact cause will be confirmed after further inquiry.
A manhunt is currently underway to nab the accused.
Meanwhile, Ghosh’s family alleged that he was targeted due to his association with the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
An investigation has been launched into the case.
