SRINAGAR: Security forces foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control ( LOC ) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara on Sunday, killing two infiltrators, officials said.
The incident occurred in the Keran sector after troops spotted suspicious movement near the LoC. When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire, triggering a gunbattle . A search operation is currently under way.
The identities and group affiliations of the two men gunned down were not immediately known.
The Army and police have not issued any official statement on the operation.
This is the second infiltration attempt in a month. On Aug 31, two infiltrators were killed in the Gurez sector, one of whom was later identified as Bagu Khan, a man in his 60s and a guide called as “human GPS”, helping and guiding infiltration into the Kashmir Valley.
The Gurez and Keran sectors, close to the LoC, have long been traditional infiltration routes for militants attempting to enter the Valley from across the border.
