Prime Minister Narendra Modi , at the Quad Summit in Wilmington on Saturday, emphasized the importance of the Quad alliance in an increasingly volatile global landscape, marked by tensions and conflicts.
In his opening remarks, while speaking alongside President Biden, Australian prime minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese prime minister Fumio Kishida, PM Modi highlighted the progress made by the Quad countries—India, the United States, Australia, and Japan—since the inaugural summit in 2021 under the leadership of US President Joe Biden .
"It gives me immense pleasure to participate at this Quad Summit during my third term...Under your leadership, the first summit (QUAD) of 2021 was organised. In such a short time, we have expanded our cooperation in an unprecedented way in every direction,” PM Modi said.
“You have played a very important role in this. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your strong commitment and contribution to Quad," he added.
The Prime Minister made clear that the Quad is united in its efforts to ensure a free, open, inclusive, and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, which remains a shared priority among the member nations.
"Quad Summit is taking place at a time when the world is surrounded by tensions and conflicts. In such a situation, the QUAD's working together on the basis of shared democratic values is very important for the entire humanity,” said PM Modi.
“We are not against anyone. We all support rules-based international order, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, and peaceful resolution of all issues. Free, open, inclusive and prosperous Indo-Pacific is our shared priority and shared commitment," he added.
"Our message is clear- the QUAD is here to stay, to assist, to partner and to complement. I once again greet President Biden and all my colleagues. We will be happy to organize the QUAD Leaders Summit in India in 2025," he added, expressing India’s readiness to host the next Quad Summit in 2025.
The summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in Wilmington, Delaware, saw PM Modi reaffirm that the Quad’s mission is to uphold a rules-based international order and support the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, stressing that it is not formed against any specific country.
Ahead of the Quad Summit, PM Modi held a bilateral meeting with President Biden, where both leaders discussed strengthening the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership .
PM Modi's US visit includes an address at the UN General Assembly’s "Summit of the Future" and meetings with influential American business leaders and the Indian diaspora.
